The Coalition, a weekly political talk show airing on AM 790-WPRV, (Sundays at 10 a.m) has dedicated a page on their website to urging Rhode Island residents to take to their phones and email accounts to voice their displeasure with the new stadium proposal by the new ownership of the Pawtucket Red Sox. Yesterday, they asked supporters to call Governor Gina Raimondo's office.
"We applaud yesterday's success. Citizens reported calling the Governor's office up to three times, only to be met with to a full voicemail inbox," Coalition co-host, Dave Fisher, said of the effort, "We're asking that Rhode Islander's call our elected officials and - as one of our supporters put it - participate in this "people powered denial of service attack."
Today, they are urged anyone opposed to the deal to call Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza's office.
A short script and the pertinent phone numbers for members of the powerful House Finance Committee, Governor Gina Raimondo, and Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza have been posted on their website at www.FightTheStadium.com. They are asking Rhode Islander's to flood the phones and switchboards of each of these officials at specific times this week.
"The city of Providence must not fall victim to the siren song of yet another false prophet. Burdened by crumbling infrastructure, a dangerously underfunded retiree benefit plan, and a school system in both structural and financial disarray, there exists no room for a misguided investment of taxpayer dollars, or the public trust, " said show host Pat Ford, "The I-195 corridor was reclaimed at significant public expense for the implementation of a sophisticated strategy that would integrate a job-centric economic development plan within a newly revitalized Providence waterfront. Simply settling for the first opportunity proffered by a renowned purveyor of crony capitalism is a perversion of the “highest and best use of the land."
