PAWTUCKET, RI. The first RI Food Truck Awards will take place on Monday, June 13 on a rooftop in Pawtucket, from 4 to 8pm. The address is the corner of Main St. and Park Place.
The event will announce the winners from Motif Magazine’s online poll where Rhode Island residents voted in 23 categories ranging from “Best Graphics” and “Best Service” to “Best Burger” and “Best Guilty Pleasure.”
There will be food trucks, beer from Narragansett and Bucket breweries, and kids’ activities like hula hooping, face painting by Art on the Spot, balloon animals and magic by Marvelous Marvin.
Musical guests will include Hott Boyz (Roz Raskin and Kate Jones) and Sasquatch of Sasquatch & the Sick-A-Billys.
RI is home to the longest running food truck in America, and as the reputation of RI’s culinary community continues to rise, food trucks are expanding too. This niche now incorporates almost every kind of food, and includes vegan, gluten-free and gourmet trucks in the mix.
The purpose of this event is to celebrate this emerging, growing community. Although food trucks compete, they also cooperate – stories of sharing generators and helping out fellow trucks abound in the RI food truck community, and this event aims to pull them together for a joint recognition of their accomplishments in this growing sector.
The event is sponsored by 401 Studio, Narragansett Beer, Restaurant Superstore and Scituate Companies. Part of the proceeds will go to support SENE, the Southeast Film, Music and Art Festival which takes place across the state in April.
The Food Truck Awards are being produced as a collaboration between Motif Magazine and Food Trucks In RI.
Motif is a statewide arts and entertainment magazine covering food, music, theater, art, craft beer and events of all kinds. Food Trucks In RI is a service providing a national database and GPS-based tracking system for food trucks, headquartered in Rhode Island.
